Overview
Founded in 1890, the University of Tasmania is located in Hobart, in the island state of Tasmania. The University has a special focus on assisting students explore and develop their interests, while pursuing a high-quality tertiary education of recognised internationally.

Location
The University is headquartered in Hobart, with campuses on the Cradle Coast and in Launceston. The cityscapes are nestled into some of the most beautiful natural environments in the world, with world heritage wilderness, riverscapes and coastal regions near at hand.
Tasmania is Australia’s island state, south across the Bass Strait from the mainland state of Victoria, only a plane or ferry away. A short trip by plane or boat, world away in its unique qualities of a small island with large connections to the global scene.
Campuses
Hobart campus is located on 100 hectares at Sandy Bay, close to the River Derwent and five minutes by bus from the CBD. With a mountainous backdrop, the campus boasts state-of-the-art teaching and learning facilities and up-to-date computer labs. The campus oversees the Conservatorium of Music and the School of Art. The Health Sciences clinical facilities are adjacent
Hobart hospital.
Launceston campus is sited on 50 hectares five minutes bus ride from the CBD, on the Tamar River. Facilities include newly built teaching and learning facilities, computing labs, sport and recreation facilities and the campus oversees the School of Visual and Performing Arts and the School of Architecture and Design.
Cradle Coast campus is in the north west of the island, based in Burnie. Facilities are new and purpose built. The campus specialises in Resources Management, but its course aren’t yet available to international students due to its small size and resource base.
The Australian Maritime College is located in Launceston and specialises in maritime education, training and development. Facilities include Australia’s best maritime training resources and equipment.

English Courses
The University provides English language tuition through its English Language Centre located at the Hobart and Launceston Campuses. Courses offered include: General English, Cambridge English Exam Preparation, IELTS Full-time Test Preparation and Direct Entry Academic Programme.
Entry Requirements
English language requirements:- undergraduate admission generally requires an overall IELTS of at least 6.0 with no band less than 5.5; postgraduate admission generally requires an overall IELTS of at least 6.0 with no band less than 6.0 for coursework and 6.5 overall with no band less than 6.0 for
research.
Academic requirements:- undergraduate admission generally requires successful completion of the equivalent of Year 12 High School (eg. International Baccalaureate) and meeting specific course requirements; postgraduate coursework admission generally requires successful completion of the
equivalent of a Bachelor degree, or at least six years of suitable and relevant work experience. There may also be specific course requirements

Enrolment dates
It is advisable for international students to apply at least two months prior to the semester within which they wish to commence study. Note that there are also Summer, Winter and Spring Schools. AA Education Network can advise on these schools.
