Foundation Studies

Focus on Foundation Studies: Guaranteed entry into selected undergraduate programs? It almost sounds too good to be true. Swinburne’s foundation studies program is designed to prepare international students for further study in Australia and allows for quick progression onto the next level of study.

Students who commence foundation studies in June 2008 have the opportunity to commence a bachelor degree or further study in February 2009. This saves time and the cost of having to wait for a delayed intake.

Swinburne College offers foundation studies in:

* Business

* Design

* Information Technology / Multimedia

* Science / Engineering

The eight-month program provides students with the opportunity to complete their year 11-12 studies in a university environment and achieve the requirements for direct entry into a bachelor degree.

They have the benefits of small class sizes, greater contact hours and more attention from teaching staff.

Swinburne College Director Chris Wallis says the program provides a great transition for international students as it’s specially designed for those new to the Australian study environment.

“As well as the academic subjects there is time spent on information and techniques to smooth the way into academic life and opportunities to adjust to a different lifestyle in a supported program.”

Tsui Yu Kit began his time at Swinburne with Foundation Studies (Design), paving the way to achieve his dream of becoming a designer. He’s nowundertaking a Bachelor of Design (Communication Design).

“We need to learn and understand all the basics to go on,” he says. “Foundation studies instructed me in the correct way of thinking, and now I find that it's easier to learn and understand the new knowledge in my bachelor degree.

“This course is helping me realise more about design, helping me to establish the foundation for my future.”
