Deadly Taipan Venom
Lethal Snake Venom a Potential Life Saver
The deadly Taipan's venom could save many lives by stopping excessive bleeding during surgery or after major trauma. A protein has been identified by QUT reseacher Dr. Liam St Pierre that could create blood clots, hence effectively stopping major bleeding. This protein is commonly found in humans, but snakes produce a more potent and effective variant of the protein. Used as a toxin, the venom causes paralysis and eventually a fatal heart attack in the prey.
